DESIGN & ADVISORY PRACTICE

Architecture
in relation
to place.

We work across architecture, interiors, urbanism, landscape and heritage—considering the relationships between built form, environmental conditions, cultural history and everyday use.

From buildings
to urban landscapes.

AN BURO is a multidisciplinary design and advisory practice concerned with the physical, cultural and environmental dimensions of the built environment.

Our work spans new development and the adaptation of existing places. Each commission is approached through its particular site, programme, history and technical requirements, with attention to the wider landscape and urban fabric.

03 / APPROACHDESIGN AS INQUIRY AND SYNTHESIS

Design is a process of interpreting conditions, establishing priorities and reconciling different forms of knowledge.

Place.
Form.
Continuity.

01

Reading Place and Territory

We examine the spatial, environmental and historical conditions of a site and its relationships beyond the project boundary: settlement patterns, landscape, infrastructure and the ways places are occupied and used.

02

Formulating a Spatial Response

Design propositions are shaped through the interaction of programme, spatial organisation, material considerations and technical feasibility. The aim is a coherent response to the specific demands of each commission.

03

Continuity and Transformation

We consider what should be retained, adapted or introduced, and how decisions made today will affect the future use, maintenance and evolution of a building or place.
